We are considering introducing lunchtime workouts. So that we can pack this into a lunchtime the sessions will be slightly shorter at 45 minutes. If you are interested in attending a lunchtime session then please post a comment here. Thanks!
The Worldwide CrossFit community
One of the really great things about what we do is the fact that wherever you can find CrossFit in the World you are likely find a friendly and welcoming community of like minded people that you have an instant connection with.
Every CrossFit affiliate/box will be a different interpretation of what CrossFit is all about so whenever you're travelling, in the UK or abroad, we'd encourage you to get out and visit as many different boxes and communities as possible. The Fitzgeralds visited CrossFit NYC when they were in New York and Kate and Dean recently visited CrossFit Brevard whilst they were on holiday - all were made to feel extremely welcome.
If you know you'll be travelling have a look here to find the nearsest affiliate to where you're going to be. Please make sure you get in touch beforehand and ask if it's alright to drop in, most won't even charge you anything for the first time, though it's always nice to buy a t-shirt as a gesture of support.
Just to prove you can still work out whilst on holiday, here is a photo of the hill Kate and Dean did sprints up. Great stuff.
However, the most important thing about being on holiday is to remember that 'You are on holiday!' and to rest, relax and enjoy yourselves. Looks like Kate got the balance just right.
Apparently this was a small margarita!

Family fun day and a Marathon Row (42,195m!)
On Sunday 25th March, CrossFit Harrogate will be raising money for Sport Relief by trying to break the World Record marathon rowing time!
This is a team event it would be great if we can get as many people involved as possible, therefore please sign-up on the form in the box, the more people involved the less everyone has to row! Rowing starts at 1030, and there will be a family fun workout at 1130 with some 'Paleoish' refreshments afterwards. Everyone is welcome so please bring yourselves, family, friends and anyone else you can find along to join in the row, cheer on the team, get involved in the family workout, meet the rest of the CrossFit Harrogate family, and/or just eat cake!
We would be very grateful if you would make any donations to Sports Relief through this link, thank you.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to Rachael and Suzanne for organising what is hopefully the first of many such events for our growing community.
UK CrossFitters website
Some of you will already know about the UK CrossFitters facebook group. Matt Evans from Reebok CrossFit Velocity has now started up a UK CrossFitters website/blog that looks like it will be the central hub for everything going on in the UK CrossFit community. Have a look and try and get involved, the more interaction we can get the better for everyone in the community.

CrossFit Games 2012 - The Open registration is live
Registration is live for the CrossFit Games 2012 Open. The first of five weekly workouts will be announced on 22 Feb 2012. This should be accessible for everyone so go on, give it a go and experience what it's like to be part of the Worldwide CrossFit community.
For an emplanation of how the Games Season works please have a look at this link and video below.
Update on the CrossFit Open
For those that still want to register please do so as soon as possible (it must be before the first workout is released, see below). Please also ensure you select 'CrossFit Harrogate' as your affiliate otherwise we wont be able to validate your score.
The first workout will be release at 0100 our time on Thursday 23 February 2012. We will programme this as the 'Workout of the day' for all classes taking place on Fri 24 Feb, that means everyone can have a go whether you're registered or not. This process will continue every Thursday and Friday for the next five weeks.
For those that are registered for the Open on the CrossFit Games website you will have until 0100 our time on Mon 27 Feb (which realistically means close of play on Sat 25 Feb) to complete the workout and have your score validated and submitted. You can complete the workout either in the classes or open gym sessions on the Thursday, Friday (with everyone else) or Saturday. You'll have to have a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer present to be able to validate it. You can repeat the workout as many times as you like.
Additionally, we will be coordinating a joint 'Open Workout' with CrossFit HG3 every Saturday for the next five weeks where those that are registered will be able complete that weeks Open workout in more of a competition, though still fun, style environment that should hopefully elicit some personal best performances. There should also hopefully be judges who will count your reps etc. This is optional and we know some of you wont be able to make it but it would be great to get as many of you to these events as possible. Also, if anyone else would like to support those competing then please come along too, the more the better!
On Sat 25 Feb the workout will start at 1200 at CrossFit HG3. The following week, Sat 3 Mar, it will be here at CrossFit Harrogate. The following Saturdays are still to be confirmed.
Hopefully that makes sense, please let us know if there are any questions.
The best laid plans rarely survive contact... Update v2 on the CrossFit Open
We will programme this as the 'Workout of the day' for the class taking place at 0900 on Sat 25 Feb, that means everyone can have a go whether you're registered or not. This process will continue every Thursday and Saturday for the next five weeks.
For those that are registered for the Open on the CrossFit Games website you will have until 0100 our time on Mon 27 Feb (which realistically means close of play on Sat 25 Feb) to complete the workout and have your score validated and submitted. You can complete the workout either in the classes or open gym sessions on Thursday and Friday or on Saturday with everyone else. The Saturday classes have been very well attended recently so hopefully we can create a really good atmosphere to help those competing do the best that they can. You'll have to have a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer present to be able to validate your score. You can repeat the workout as many times as you like.
It wasn't possible this time but scheduling constraints permitting, we will hopefully coordinate some of the future workouts with CrossFit HG3.
Hopefully that makes sense, please let us know if there are any questions.
Top 1/4 Hellrunner finish with no running training
Well done to Alex H on finishing 199th out of 900 in the Hellrunner race this weekend without doing any running training; however, he's not doing very well on hiding his pain face in this photo!
Well done to Rachael - the SICFIT London Throwdown
Massive congratulations to Rachael and the rest of Britannia CrossFit for coming 5th in the London Throwdown. Well done eveyone, awesome effort, you did yourselves proud. Hopefully we'll be able to put a team of our our own in next year, time to get practising!
Barry's London Marathon for Cancer Research
"Hi everyone!
Here is my just giving webpage where you can sponsor me to run the London Marathon for Cancer Research on 22 April, 2012.
This will be my second time running the London Marathon and I am looking forward to crossing the finish line under 4hrs and 15 minutes. As with past races, I will definitely be running for charity. Cancer Research is a charity that I believe in and feel very strongly about.
Raising funds for Cancer Research is very important to me since I have lost a few family members to the disease over the years. I'm confident that with your help and donation, a cure can be found!
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you!
Barry"

CrossFit women
Suzanne found this one, inspiring stuff for both men and women. I know we've got quite a few success stories of our own that are equally as impressive but you're all too modest to shout about it so I wont embarrass you here. Change takes time but if you stick with this for long enough it WILL happen and when it does come it will be in a big and highly rewarding way.
European CrossFit Masters Competition - "Raising the Bar"
There will be a European CrossFit Masters Competition, "Raising the Bar" at Dragon CrossFit on the 14th April 2012.
We know there are a few of you that fall into this category though we're not going to give any names away. You'll see they're going to allow scaling so you've got nothing to lose; get involved with the rest of the CrossFit Community and we're sure you'll witness some inspirational performances.
Naked Ape pack order
Hey everyone. I know quite a few of you expressed an interest in the Naked Ape packs that Pete was kind enough to bring down before Christmas. We'll be putting an order in for the box on Monday so if you want any (avoiding any postage costs), then please fill in the form at the box by close of play on Saturday. If we get enough intesrest we'll make this a regular thing. Each pack will cost £2.50 with payment due on collection.
James Jowsey is coming on 19th Feb - time to get your own shapes!
Some of you may have seen Rachael, Chris and Ben doing some strange looking movements i.e. 'throwing their shapes'. They come from James Jowsey who trains out of CrossFit 3D in Manchester.
He prescribes movements to each individual according to their own bio-mechanical dysfunction. This is performance enhancement, warm up, recovery, injury pre-hab and re-hab all rolled into one.
The best news is that he's coming over especially to see us at CrossFit Harrogate on Sun 19th February 2012. You will be able to book a one-hour one-to-one session with him where he will address your own specific movement dysfunction and give you your own unique warm up/performance enhancement/recovery/injury prevention and treatment routine.
There will only be six spaces available (CFH members only); therefore, let us know as soon as possible if you want to book a slot (timings will be released very soon and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis when people book). The one-hour session will cost £60 and you will need to pay £30 of that as a deposit.
We can't say enough good things about this, it changes everything. If you're serious about getting results (be that performance, health, body composition or longevity) you should definitely be looking into this.
Strongman seminar, CrossFit Clitheroe, Mar 24 2012
CrossFit Clitheroe will be hosting Rob Orlando and his Strongman Seminar on Saturday 24th March 2012. This will be a lot of fun, is open to everyone and isn't too far away.
There will also be a 'Rob O Strongman Challenge' on Friday 23th March 2012 at CrossFit Clitheroe - you never know until you have a go!
Pull ups are easier for smaller people!
There's recently been some discussion in the box on body size and strength to weight ratio. Have a look at this link (don't worry it's pitched at children!). In summary: it's easier for smallER people to do pull ups - time to get those muscle ups cracked!
CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Course, Manchester 14-15 Apr 2012
For those who want to take things a bit further, in terms of coaching or personal performance, the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Course is a great thing to do. You'll meet some great people, you'll have loads of fun and you'll learn a huge amount (and no you don't have to be a 'CrossFit Firebreather' to attend, it can be for absolutely anyone as long as you're willing to learn).
It's taking place at Reebok CrossFit Stockport in Manchester, 14-15 April 2012. Click on the link above to book your place. If you want to get on this you will need to book straight away as they always sell out very quickly.
