I thought I would spend a little time to properly explain our programming and the Thursday coached open gym sessions.
Thursday and Sunday are programmed as rest days in the programming cycle that I write. However, it is only programmed as a rest day if you are following the pattern of Training M, T, W, F, and S (The days a programmed workout is posted).
In the past a lot of you have asked how often you should train. For best results CrossFit.com recommend training 3 ‘on’, 1 ‘off’. This training cycle is not for everyone. So what is?? The short answer and recommendation from CrossFit Harrogate is that you should train 4 or 5 days per week. Generally, don’t train more than 3 days consecutively or less than 2 days consecutively. Above all, listen to your body, but be aware that at times you must work through soreness and fatigue. However, never work through pain, especially acute pain.
During the Thursday session the first half hour there will be a coach’s corner skills practice taking place. This will be working purely on one skill that will be posted to the site the night before. It is not compulsory for you to take part in this skills training.
The remainder of the session is open to you to do as you please. I will be available for you to ask questions, look and correct movement on any skill of your choice, or suggest a suitable workout.
If you do not want to participate in the skills during the 30 minutes coach’s corner session, the gym is open to you to catch up on a WOD you have missed, work on your mobility, or practice a skill of your choice (this may be an option even if you are on a “rest” day). There is also a lot to be said for active rest days.
So people! Please do not feel that you should not come in during a coached open gym session because the format is more relaxed than a regular class and there is no posted workout!
