Socials

Steve Beale has very kindly volunteered to take on the role of Social Secretary. He will be acting as a central point of coordination for events, allowing members to meet up and have fun without getting breathless or sweaty!
This doesn't me...an that we should all leave everything to Steve. He and Sally have come up with a raft of ideas but will need input and support from all of us so please, bombard him with ideas and don't be afraid to put your hand up to help with the organisational stuff. All help is very welcome.

One more week to go!!

Just one more week left of the paleo challenge! For some, there will be no change as they will adopt the this as their normal nutrition regime. For others it may be a welcome invitation to crack open a bottle or 2!

Eitherway, get down to the box and re-do your fat caliper measurement to see what a difference it has made. Also please make sure that you drop a note onto the Facebook event page to let us know if it made you feel better or improved you WOD time etc...

Stray FM

Stray FM came to play in the 18:00 session last Tuesday and from their feedback, despite a few aches the next day, they had a great time. They commented a number of times about the atmosphere, that most of us know each other and the fact that we actually talk to each other (apparently talking to each other doesn't happen much in non CrossFit gyms!!)

There was a record turnout of 22 folks, all training in one session in a tough but fun session. Very weel done to all that took part and I hope that you enjoyed taking part as much as we enjoyed coaching it.

There are some photos in the gallery section of www.strayfm.com. Enjoy!!

THANK-YOU!!!

So far this month, due to demand created by you, we have run 2 inductions, both of which were vitually full! As there are still folk out there who seem interested, we have opened up another 2, the first of which kicks off tomorrow evening at 20:00 and that looks like it may well fill up too!

All of this is down to you talking about CrossFit and our Community to friends and family. We would like to say a MASSIVE THANK-YOU to each and every one of you for all of your support and for helping us to grow our Box and Community.

Paleo Snack Share

Like to snack and want to stay Paleo?

Having difficulty coming up with snack ideas?

There are only so many carrot sticks or almonds that a person can eat while trying to stay Paleo.
So let's get creative! If each of us comes up with one great snack idea and makes a batch of about 10 - 20 individual snack portions and about the same number of copies of the recipe (numbers may change in line with participation)!

Then lets all get together, talk snacks, swap snacks and grab copies of the recipes that you like and for those that want to, grab some open gym time!

If you can't fit all of the snacks you want to try in on the day, bring a box and take some home.

We are looking at 13:00 on Sunday 27 Jan at the Box

Additional New Year Group Induction

The induction that starts on Monday 7th Jan is now full.

As there are still folk that have expressed an interest in a January induction out there, we have scheduled an additional course that will kick off on Tuesday 15th Jan at 20:00 and continue for 6 sessions over a 2 week period on a Tuesday and Thursday at 20:00 and Saturday at 12:30.

To sign up please go to the Schedule page and click on the "Courses" tab. Spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!

New 5k Running Course

Calling all would be runners!

Gio is starting a complete beginners to 5k running course from the Box at 10.00 on Sundays. The course will focus on running technique, building distance and some runner friendly conditioning and mobility. Starting on Sunday 6th Jan 13, it will run for 8 weeks (every Sunday) and will contain a little homework to help accelerate progress. At the end of the 8 week course, you will be able to comfortably run for at least 5k.

The cost for this course is £35 per person. If you are interested, please drop Gio a mail on gio@crossfitharrogate.com. Members and non-members are welcome.

Members Community Tree

At the minute the members community tree is looking a little autumnal. Not a leaf in sight. We are looking to replace the missing leaves with fotos of our members. So either send us a piccy (simon@crossfitharrogate.com) and we will print and stick it up, bring in one of your own or grab Gio or Simon and we will take one. Whichever, let's get the tree looking full by Christmas!!!

CrossFit Kids and Teens has arrived!!

CrossFit Kids is not just a scaled-down version of CrossFit but absolutely CrossFit, geared and designed for a specific population and the specific developmental needs of that population. The emphasis is to make children faster, stronger, fitter, and more capable, whilst doing it in a fun way, so that they want to do it. In short, CrossFit Kids is ‘broad, inclusive, general fitness wrapped up in FUN’.

CrossFit Kids is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes and the primary P.E. programme for many schools. It is used by athletic teams, martial arts schools and many parents that want their kids to grow up healthy, strong and have a life long love of working out, thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity.

The CrossFit Kids programme delivers fitness that is – by design – broad, general and inclusive. It is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. It uses the same routines for four year olds as it does for more experienced teenage athletes by scaling load and intensity.

Overall, the CrossFit Kids programme will make kids faster, stronger and more capable & fit than the kids around them, in a fun way.

Visit the CrossFit Kids website here.

  • Pre-School for kids aged 2 1/2 - 4 years
  • Infants for kids aged 3- 6 years
  • Primary for kids 7-12 years
  • Teens for kids aged 12-18 years

Sessions are £4 for kids and £5 for Teens. Payment can be made to the lead coach at the beginning of the session. Class times can be found on the timetable here.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Divided We Fall Games 2012 (3rd-4th Nov).

Take a look at the DWF Games website (http://www.dividedwefallgames.com/games-info/) for all information on the UK's biggest CrossFit competition. Why do you need to know all about this? CrossFit Harrogate have registered and will be taking a team of 4 men and 2 women to compete this year! Spectator tickets are also on sale so even if you aren't going to be on the team you can still come along and support!!

Competition training will commence on Thursday's 19:00-20:00. It will be within these sessions that we will eventually compete against one another in order to select our strongest team. Get excited people, last years event was incredible and this year is stacking up to be even bigger and better!!

If you are interested in going to this competition and being part of the CrossFit Harrogate team, there is a level of commitment required. Firstly there will be a series of qualifying workouts programmed within the box, these will tests a broad range of strengths & skills. These qualifying WODs will be performed under judged conditions. If you complete all the workouts and finish with a  top 4 position (for the men) or top 2 position (for the women), you will have earnt yourself a position in the team!

Along with the commitment to completing the WOD's there is also the matter of availability. The dates for the competition are the weekend of 3rd/4th november. This would therefore mean we will need to travel down on the Friday evening, stay over in a hotel, in order to be ready to compete both on the Saturday as well as Sunday.

There is also a cost involved with being part of the team, each member will be required to pay an entry fee of £33 as well as their own travel and hotel costs.

Tristan.
