What's the Games all about?

Firstly check the official games website games.crossfit.com

The games happens each year and is open to anyone, of any ability from any country. It's a CrossFit, fitness competition that takes place over 3 phases.

1. Feb/March - The Open - Open to all

2. May - The Regionals - the lead athletes in each age and gender category progress from the Open to the region. Regions include Europe, Asia Pac, North America etc etc.

3. July - The top athletes from the regionals jet off to California to decide who really is the best of the best.

The CrossFit Games - The Open

So, the CrossFit Games kicks off this week with the 2015 WOD number one (15.1) being released at 01:00 GMT on Friday Morning. Competitors scores MUST be submitted by no later than 01:00 on the following Monday morning (GMT)

CrossFit Harrogate will schedule the Open WOD for all sessions through out each Friday for the full 5 weeks. In addition, we will make sure that there are as many judges available throughout the Sunday Open gym, giving you another opportunity to get your WOD done.

 

If anyone has ANY issues getting judged, done panic, please come and talk to one of the coaches and we will try to accommodate where we can.

Those that have chosen not to compete this year, no need to miss out, come and do the WOD in either of the above sessions of just come and make some noise for your friends as they do their WOD.

Finally, competitors, good luck and really try to enjoy the experience. 

Next Morning Induction - 3 March

CrossFit Harrogate will be running a morning Induction in March 2015. Each Induction course comprises 6 x 1 hour sessions where you will learn the fundamental movements for CrossFit, meet some great people and get some great workouts. The Morning induction will start at 06:00 on Tuesday 03 March and will run on a Tuesday and Thursday (06:00) for 3 weeks. Next Evening Induction - 16 February

CrossFit Harrogate will be running an evening induction beginning 16 February. Induction consists of 6 x 1 hour sessions where you will learn the fundamental movements for CrossFit, meet some great people and get some great workouts. The first class will start on Monday 16 February and will run for two weeks (Monday and Wednesday at 20:30 and on Fridays at 19:00).

Lion's Pride Challenge 2015 WOD's

Below are the WOD’s for the Lion’s Pride Challenge! All ten teams will compete in the first three WOD’s and the top three teams will compete in the final event.  At the end, the winning team will be announced and will have bragging rights for the year!

We ask that all competitors arrive at the box at 12:30 to sign in, receive their shirt, pay for their entry fee if they have not already done so, and warm up.  The competition will begin at 13:00.

WOD 1:

400m run/500m row (completed as a team, rounds may not start until all team members have completed the run/row)

Then 12 Rounds** of

5 x jumping Squats (20/10)

7 x Hand Release Press Ups

9 x Box Jumps (20/16)

Then 400m run/500m row (time stops when the last team member comes through the door or finishes the row, whichever comes last)

**Each team member must complete 3 rounds. Only one team member can be working at one time and must complete the full round of jumping squats, hand release press ups and box jumps before the next team member can begin their round.

WOD 2:

1RM Push Jerk

Each team has 12 minutes to establish 1RM Push Jerk for all four team members. Push jerk can be the split stance landing.

WOD 3:

All team members working at one time:

10 x Sandbag Jump Burpees

10m Walking Lunge with Sandbag Overhead

Each team will have one 10, 15, and two 20 kg sandbags. All team members must conduct the burpees together (i.e. drop to floor together, stand up together and jump together – obviously some leniency will need to be shown as they will not have a chance to practice this but the idea is that they all move together). Once the burpees are complete, the team members will clean and press the sandbag overhead and do walking lunges for 10m. All members must reach the 5m point before turning and completing the second 5 meters.

Then the Top 3 Teams move on to WOD 4: 

Chipper (in cannon)
500m row

40 KBS (16/12/8)

30 HPC (30/20)

20 Sit ups

10 Thrusters (20/10)

For the KBS, all four KB’s must be used. This means that at least two athletes will use a 16kg KB. For the other movements, male athletes must utilize the men’s weights and female athletes must utilize the ladies’ weights.

New Endurance Class!

A heads up for a change to the Saturday morning programming.

From this coming Saturday the 08:00 class will be targeted at developing aerobic endurance. This will mean that the workouts will typically be longer in duration and will have a higher aerobic training content (e.g. running, rowing, skipping, double under etc.)

This will be ideal for those athletes that are looking for accelerated fat loss and people who are training for an endurance event of some kind.

The 09:00 session will remain unchanged. The same fun and games as every Saturday!

Reminder - Membership Payments in 2015

To allow easier management of monthly payments going forward, we would ask that all members pay for their membership using Gocardless.  This allows for payments via direct debit. You can set this up through your teamup account and it allows you to manage your payments directly.

Gocardless is the preferred payment method however you can also pay for your membership by standing order. 

If you do not want to pay by Gocardless or standing order then from 1 January, all card and cash payments for monthly memberships will incur a £5 surcharge.

Last Week to Sign Up for the Lion's Pride Challenge!

This is the last week to sign up for the Lion's Pride Challenge! If you haven't done so already, please put your name in. It is a fantastic day of friendly competition and all of the WODs will be scalable to suit any fitness and ability level. This is all about community and you won't regret being a part of it! Christmas Opening Hours and Kids Schedule

CrossFit Kids classes will stop for the Christmas break on the 20th of December and resume on the 3rd of January.  The 9.30am class on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are family WOD’s, so please bring the family along!

During the Christmas holiday period, the adult classes will be operating a reduced class timetable.  If you have off peak membership, during this period you can attend any of the classes.

22nd  & 23rd  Dec – All classes running as per the normal schedule.

24th Dec  - 9.30am and 2.30pm.  Christmas WOD  - Santa hats optional!

25th  & 26th Dec -  Closed.

27th Dec -  9.00am only.

28th Dec -  Closed.

29th  & 30th Dec  - No 6.15am class, all other classes running as normal.

31st Dec  - 9.30am & 2.30pm – New Year Eve WOD

1st Jan - Closed.

Reminder: Deadline for the Sign Up for Lion's Pride Challenge is 15 December!

On 17 January 2015, we will hold the second annual CrossFit Harrogate Lion’s Pride Challenge.  This competition will be open to members only and will give the winning team bragging rights for the year.  But before you get too far into planning your teams, we want to make sure things are fair, so keep reading to see how it will work. All interested members will sign up by 15 December.  Once we have the list of competitors, the coaches will get together and pick the teams.  Teams will consist of two men and two ladies and will be put together so as to give each team a fighting chance.  Workouts and team selections will be released the week prior to the event and all movements will have a scalable option so that anyone can participate.  The competition will be followed by a get together that may or may not have beer involved (gluten free, of course!).  The cost to enter the competition will be £10 and will entitle you a Lion’s Pride Challenge t-shirt.  Please sign up at the box if you are interested!
